Hungary condemns in the strongest possible terms the chemical attack that was carried out in Syria on August 21, killing one and a half thousand people. The attack, which also targeted civilians, totally disregarded all moral rules and international norms. It is particularly shocking that every third victim was a child.
The 16th annual Hungarian Jewish Summer Festival is currently being held in Budapest between 25 August and 2 September and offers various programs introducing Jewish culture. On 2 August 1944, three thousand Roma people were murdered in the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. What happened on that day only became fully known to history several decades later. 2 August was declared International Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day by the World Romani Congress in 1972. On this day, we remember the tens of thousands of Sinti and Roma people who were murdered throughout Europe during the Second World War.
