On Wednesday, October 12, the Embassy of Hungary, in cooperation with the National Defense Univeristy in Washington, DC, co-organized an academic symposium under the title “1956: The Freedom Fight that Changed the Cold War – Geopolitics and Defense Policy.” Distinguished participants included the Minister of Defense of Hungary István Simicskó, Ambassador Dr. Réka Szemerkényi, Senior Vice President of the National Defense University Donald Yamamoto, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James J. Townsend.
