In a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó condemned the attack on French police officers in Paris on Thursday, April 20 in the strongest possible terms.

“Those who attack the police are clearly aiming to destabilize the country and want to generate fear and uncertainty,” said Szijjártó. “Whatever the perpetrator’s motive, his actions are unacceptable and everything must be done to prevent similar attacks of this nature. France can count on Hungary’s solidarity and support. We express our condolences to the grieving and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” added the Foreign Minister.

On Thursday evening, an officially named perpetrator opened fire on a police bus near the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. The attacker was shot. One police officer was killed and several others were injured.
