The Delegation of the European Union to the United States and the Embassies of the 27 EU Member States to the United States will open their doors to the Washington public during the EU Embassies' Open House Day. This annual event is a highlight of the Washington May calendar and is celebrated during Europe Week. Each embassy will open to the public from 10 am until 4 pm on Saturday, May 12, 2012, offering a rare look inside the buildings and providing a unique opportunity to experience the country's cultural heritage and national traditions. Free shuttle bus service will be provided throughout the day. The EU Delegation and the Embassies will offer authentic music, dance, food, film, art and fun for the whole family.
Programs at the Embassy of Hungary on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 10am-4pm:
Come and taste real Hungarian goulash (gulyás), chimney cake (kürtőskalács), and wines on the terrace of the Embassy of Hungary.
Sing and dance to true Hungarian folk music with live assistance from the Tisza Dance Ensemble (http://www.tiszaensemble.org).
Enjoy a huge children’s corner and meet Hungarian breed dogs in the garden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_animals).
Learn about Hungarian inventions, win a Rubik’s Cube and plan your visit to Budapest at the stand of the Hungarian Tourism Office (http://www.gotohungary.com).
Afterwards, take a look at the Peirce Water Mill (http://www.nps.gov/pimi) next to the Embassy.
