PM Viktor Orbán: US Has Right to Determine Its Own Border Policy

Addressing US President Donald Trump’s recent Executive Order to temporarily suspending the entry of citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that he was “surprised to observe the neurotic reactions criticizing the decision of the United States.”

“The United States is not a member of the European Union; it is an independent state and as such has the right to determine its own border, foreign and migration policies,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated upon arrival in the Maltese capital of Valetta on Friday, February 3, ahead of the summit of EU heads of state.

The American leadership has decided that it will not be giving entry visas to the citizens of certain states, and “this is something the United States has a right to do,” the Prime Minister stressed, adding that “It makes absolutely no difference what we think about this, it isn’t Europe’s business.” “We should be concentrating on ourselves and should be dealing with our own problems instead of criticizing the United States,” continued the Prime Minister.

In addition to the migration crisis, EU Heads of State at the one-day informal summit in Malta also sought to address the new global political situation.
