Fulbright Commission to Hold Special Commemoratory Ceremony in Budapest Honoring the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight

In special commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight, the Fulbright Commission will hold a commemoratory ceremony on October 7, 2016 in Budapest, Hungary.

A special ceremony honoring the 60th Anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight will take place in Budapest on Friday, October 7, 2016. Organized by the Fulbright Commission, special lectures will be delivered on the historical importance of the Revolution and its impact on Hungarian pop culture. A special discussion will also explore how the world of literature and poetry reacted to news of the 1956 Revolution.

The Fulbright Commission will also host a walk through of the 8th District neighborhood to view where some of the heaviest fighting and occured in 1956. The walk will be preceded by a short film providing a historical "then and now" perspective of the street scene.

Thirteen US scholars and eleven students will travel to Hungary under the Fulbright banner during the 2016-2017 academic year. Similarly, the Fulbright Program has arranged for the travel of thirteen Hungarian lecturers and researchers to the United States along with eleven students and one Humphrey Fellow.
