Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Ambassador Dr. Réka Szemerkényi presided over the official inauguration of the new home of the Embassy of Hungary in Washington, DC on Tuesday, March 21. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception brought together numerous distinguished guests including members of President Trump’s White House team, Congressional leadership from the Hungarian-American Caucus, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and distinguished leaders of the Hungarian-American community.

Embassy of Hungary Hosts Trio of Post-Inaugural Events Under the Headline “Salute to Freedom”

On Saturday, January 21st, one day following the Inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States, the Embassy of Hungary hosted a tripartite of events at the soon-to-be new Embassy building at 1500 Rhode Island Avenue under the headline “Salute to Freedom,” including a post-Inaugural Brunch and a VIP piano concert by Steinway Artist, Ádám György. Later in the evening, the Embassy of Hungary turned down the lights and opened up the Embassy’s new “speakeasy” bar for a happy hour and cocktail reception. Distinguished attendees of the Embassy of Hungary’s “Salute to Freedom” included President Trump’s advisors, Senators, Congressmen and Congresswomen, business executives and corporate leaders, leaders of the Hungarian-American community, and Ambassadors and Military Attachés.

Cimbalomduó Perform at Hungarian Embassy

On Wednesday, October 26, Hungarian cimbalom players Kálmán Balogh and Miklós Lukács performed for guests at a special cimbalom concert held at the Embassy of Hungary in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight. Organized by The Embassy Series, the concert was followed by a buffet dinner.

Embassy Hosts Screening of “Freedom’s Fury” Chronicling Hungary's 1956 Olympic Glory

On Tuesday, October 25, the Embassy of Hungary hosted a screening of the 2006 award-winning documentary “Freedom’s Fury.” Narrated by the legendary Olympic CHampion Swimmer Mark Spitz, “Freedom’s Fury” tells the story of the 1956 Revolution and follows the Hungarian water polo team’s journey to the Olympic finals in 1956 where they faced the Soviet Union in the now infamous “Blood in the Water Match.”
