Ambassador Szermekényi Attends Election Night Watch Parties and Discussions

On Tuesday, November 8, ahead of the election of President-elect Donald Trump, Ambassador of Hungary to the United States Dr. Réka Szemerkényi attended election night watch parties and discussions hosted by the Heritage Institute, the Washington Post. POLITICO, and the National Press Club.

Last Tuesday evening, on November 8, Ambassador of Hungary Dr. Réka Szemerkényi attended the Heritage Foundation, Washington Post, POLITICO, and the National Press Clubs’ election night watch parties and discussions in the nation’s capital of Washington, DC in anticipation of the election of the 45th President of the United States. Other prominent election night watch party attendees were: former Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan; German Ambassador Peter Wittig; Washington Post Global Opinion Editor Karen Attiah; Opinion Columnist Jennifer Rubin; Opinion Writer E. J. Dionne; and Opinion Columnist Catherine Rampell.

Earlier in the day, Ambassador Szemerkényi also attended a series of lectures and events in Washington, DC with Presidential Campaign Managers and Senio Strategists analyzing the general election and focused on potential policy outcomes at the Renaissance Washington Downtown Hotel. Prominent speakers included Mark Longabaugh, Senior Advisor for Bernie Sanders for President; Dave Hamrick, Campaign Manager for Martin O’Malley for President; Saul Anuzis, Senior Advisor for Ted Cruz for President; and, Whit Ayres, Senior Advisor for Marco Rubio for President.  

Speaking the following morning about the outcome of the election, Ambassador Szemerkényi said, “It is a privilege to be able to watch democracy in action. On behalf of the Hungarian Government the Hungarian people, I would like to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump on his victory and Secretary Clinton on a campaign well run.” “Hungary looks forward to continued close cooperation with our friend and ally the United States under a Trump Presidency,” added Ambassador Szemerkényi.
