Ambassador Szabó Visits Medical Expo in Orlando, Holds Business Meetings in Daytona Beach, Meets Hungarian Diaspora in Florida

H.E. Ambassador László Szabó, MD visited Daytona Beach and Orlando on a business trip to further expand trade cooperation and investment opportunities between Hungary and Florida from August 7-10.


On Monday, Ambassador László Szabó delivered a speech at the Rotary Club in Daytona Beach, FL, where he was welcomed by RC President Diane Larcen. He also participated in a business roundtable discussion at the Daytona Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce. Introduced by CoC President & CEO Nancy Keefer, Ambassador Szabó gave a Prezi presentation highlighting the attractive investment climate and favorable business opportunities in Hungary. He was given an overview of local Hungarian business and industry in Volusia County and helped to facilitate discussion concerning potential partnerships between local business and industry. Ambassador Szabó and the Daytona Chamber of Commerce also examined possibilities for higher education and workforce training cooperation as well as international student and faculty exchange programs.

Trained as a medical doctor, Ambassador László Szabó was excited to meet members of the management of Halifax Health, including Senior Vice President Donald John Stoner and Director of Corporate Communications John Guthrie. Halifax Health is the area’s largest and leading healthcare provider with a tertiary and community hospital, offering 678 licensed beds, more than 500 physicians on its medical staff representing 46 medical specialties.

On Tuesday, the Hungarian Ambassador’s delegation was given a guided tour of the newly refurbished Daytona International Speedway. The famous Daytona 500 NASCAR venue recently underwent a $400 million renovation in 2016.

On Wednesday, Vice President for Global Sales of the Florida International Medical Expo (FIME) in Orlando Mr. Dave Panther greeted the Ambassador at the Orange County Convention Center. Ambassador László Szabó was proud to visit the stand of the Hungarian National Trading House, where he held several meetings with representatives of participating Hungarian companies.

On Tuesday and Thursday, he had a discussion with the leaders of the Hungarian diaspora of Daytona Beach and Miami. Ambassador László Szabó met with members of the SME business community during a Hungarian diaspora breakfast and received a personal guided tour of the Hungarian Museum. As a demonstration of unity and cooperation, leaders of several Hungarian organizations of Central Florida (HungarianHub, Talpra Magyar Sport Cup, Mákvirágok Hungarian Kindergarten and School) were all present during the meeting at the Hungarian Community Church.
